Cindy Ma

Garvan Institute of Medical Research

Professor Cindy Ma is head of the Human Immune Disorders Laboratory at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney, Australia. She is a NHMRC of Australia Investigator Grant Fellow and conjoint Professor in the School of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Health at UNSW Sydney. She has published over 139 manuscripts, and her research interests lie in the study of human diseases of the immune system. This includes primary immunodeficiency due to inborn errors of immunity (IEI). Her expertise in human immunology, in particular B and T cell biology, and IEIs have led to the elucidation of molecular requirements for a functioning immune system and discovery of mechanisms underlying the clinical features of IEI, including infectious susceptibility, defective humoral and cellular immunity, autoimmunity, and atopic disease. Her current focus is around IEI that predispose affected individuals to atopy and how these can inform on pathways and mechanisms implicated in common allergic/atopic disease in the general population.
